At the time she formed The Slits, Paloma Romero was living in a London squat with John Graham Mellor, known as Woody, who played in a punk band known as The 101'ers. Later in the same year, Mellor joined Paul Simonon's group, London SS. The band soon changed its name to The Clash, and Mellor became Joe Strummer.
